Day 107 - Huatulco, Mexico

It was an interesting day. Huatulco was our port of call today. June and I aren't sure if we have been here before and it did look inviting... BUT it was waaaay too hot and humid for me to get off the ship and June agreed. We heard it was 94F with 75 percent humidity. Honestly, I just can't take that! We spent a nice day relaxing and I continued to catch up on several things on my laptop. By mid afternoon it was getting warm in our cabin even with the air all the way to "cold" and our drapes closed all but a few inches for some natural light.

About 3p the TV flashed and went blank just about the same moment things went black. There was emergency power immediately. A short 1.5 hours later our cabin was a balmy 83F. Actually, it was sweltering and we headed out early for dinner hoping it will be cooler in the dining room. It is quite cool in there, most nights a light coverup is needed. I will say the Captain came on several times to "reassure" us that everything possible was being done. We know that partial power has been restored but the essentials for our thrusters is not restored and we will NOT be leaving port at the appointed time, which was 5p.

Dinner begins, 2 more announcements. He even said "great minds of the world are helping us restore the thrusters" - rather funny really. About 6p power was restored and we left port. Tonight is our World Cruise cocktail party at 6:45p. We just finished dinner and felt we needed to really rush to make that time in just 5 minutes. We headed to the elevator when another flash, pitch black dark, and in just a couple of seconds the emergency power went on but they have an emergency system that sends all elevators to deck 7 and stop when there is a loss of power. Therefore, we had 8 flights of stairs to get to the party. We went up 2 and June decided she was not going. Had I known it was SO HOT at the party I would not have gone either but I hoped maybe it was cooler up there. It was sweltering. Of course, I was already hot from the trek up the stairs. A quick drink and dubious photo was taken - I certainly hope we get the full World Cruisers photo from April 25, because we had several friends on that portion that got off in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

I took my drink and headed to the open deck. The elevators are not yet working. There was a Movie Under the Stars just starting and a cushy lounge just waiting for me. I think it was called "Walk the Line" but it was about Johnny Cash's life. There was a lovely breeze and SO much cooler than anywhere I had been for the last many hours. I stayed there until the movie finished and then checked the elevators. Finally they are working! Our cabin was still warm but much cooler than it was. It was somewhat of a challenge to sleep.

ps: (May 7th) By this morning our cabin was down to 75F. It has been staying around 70-72F for us most of the trip. Anyway, there is power! We are thankful it is not hotter and the weather is not quite as hot outside either. Hopefully we will have power to make it to LA!!!
