Day 2 At Sea

We had a good day. We went to the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet in the Provence dinning room and I met a few of the people I have been talking to for awhile. We had sign ups for some card games and such. Tonight I called everyone who signed up. We will play from 12:30 to 3p in that same Provence dining room on sea days. We'll see who shows up. 

I exchanged the purple plastic wrist band for a gold bangle to hold my Medallion disc. After that I lost $20 in the casino. Then we wandered a jewelry store and I got a pinky ring. 

While June took a nap I went to the health center and weighed. I want to somewhat monitor things so nothing gets out of hand. Kilos instead of pounds but I just want a baseline. As the ship rocks, the scale sways so things aren't so accurate. 

When we arrived back to our cabin we had gifts waiting for us. A tote bag, water bottle, and additional lanyard to hold the Medallion disc. 

Tomorrow between 8a and 11a everyone is supposed to have Covid tests sent to their cabin to complete a self test. If you are negative you are supposed to tell your cabin steward and show him or her the photo of the negative test. Then you can go about your day. If you are positive you are supposed to call medical and let them know. Not sure what is going to happen after that. We are told we are supposed to be wearing a mask inside unless we are eating or drinking. Not everyone is adhering to this advice. No one comments either. 

We had to wait in line again for dinner, more than 30 minutes, even with a reservation. Someone in charge suggested if we eat at 7 instead of 6p we won't have to wait, so we switched. We will see how that works out. We skipped the vocalist in the theater tonight. I had to make those phone calls and June is reading. We will turn on a movie soon. Some folks are upset that we don't have "live" TV at this time. I'm not sure what happened. There are plenty of TV shows, movies, etc. There might be a mutiny if there is no Super Bowl. I imagine it will be fixed by then.  

I'm not adding any photos as it takes an eternity to download them. Not sure why, other things work pretty quickly, especially on my phone. I did post a few photos on FB. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

We started our day in the Princess Theater… waiting. 7:45a was our appointed time. About 8:15a, our number for the excursion was called. We proceeded to the line inching off the ship. However, it went much better than it did in Singapore. We were constantly moving in line so it went pretty fast. We had a face check and handed over our Passport to the culturally dressed local authorities. We are at a new cruise port that is efficient and modern. There are several convenient shops in the terminal itself where I was able to get postcards and stamps. Surprisingly, there is a small airport runway right next to the cruise port! Off we left for our tour – Easy Dubai – and we had a nice time. Our first stop was the Burj Al Arab Hotel . This 321-meter building is famous for its sail-shaped tower and has often been described as the world's only "seven-star" hotel. More Packing

Today I finished packing my second suitcase. If you recall my first one left with Luggage Forward already. This particular suitcase is my carryon, my US carryon size. It is my favorite AWAY luggage and the one I take for all my other trips. This trip is exceptional in needed much more for 111 days! Normally this particular suitcase meets all my needs. I have even seen it fall out of a small plane on a hop to SFO - on the ground of course. The planes are small and they take your carryon for free and you pick it up right outside the plane on arrival. Well, it bounced and was unscathed. It has served me well ever since. I bought this special lavender color that was only briefly available. I like the way it is built with partially recessed wheels but yet on the inside it is barely noticeable. It rolls perfectly unless the carpet is thick. Anyway, it is packed and weighed in at 32.2 lbs. I am really getting excited about this trip!!! SEVEN days to go!!!

Day 90 - Santa Cruz De La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain

There was a port shuttle that took us from the ship to the edge of town. That was nice enough. Checking at the tourist office, they told us there is no Hop-On Hop-Off bus. We did see a little train later in the day, so who can guess? At least this island seems a bit prettier and more populated than the area yesterday.  Princess didn't give us an information sheet for this port. We walked around and I found a postcard and stamp. I never did find the post office so I paid the store owner $2 euros to mail it for me. I hope he does. We found a nice little spot for a simple lunch and wandered around the rest of the time. So, setting sail toward the US! Now we will have 7 days at sea. Following the route of Columbus but assuredly our journey will not take 61 days! It was fun seeing dolphins jumping as we left port, as though they were bidding us farewell!
